It's got fast paced top-down combat (Hotline Miami-esque) mixed with bullet hell elements. And then to top it all off it's a roguelite. I've played 4 hours at the time of this review and just recently was able to get a run where I finished the game. I had picked up a mirror drone (which performs the same actions as the player just opposite) and then a couple of 4-way shot upgrades, so when I walked into a room I could just hold the trigger down and literally fill the room with bullets. Pretty sick.\nSo yeah, interesting items, fun gameplay, interesting setting. The way the items work together too is really well done (i.e. if you get fire bullets and cause enemies to explode on their death, it'll light some of the other enemies on fire). It's hard to put into words what playing this game is like so I'd recommend just giving it a shot!","html":"

For five bucks I'm not really sure you can get a better game than this. Pretty sick.

So yeah, interesting items, fun gameplay, interesting setting. The way the items work together too is really well done (i.e. if you get fire bullets and cause enemies to explode on their death, it'll light some of the other enemies on fire). It's hard to put into words what playing this game is like so I'd recommend just giving it a shot!

However, it runs like absolute garbage, lagging near-CONSTANTLY despite my overkill PC specs (32gb RAM, 8gb VRAM), which makes it awful to play. There also seems to be a bug where my character won't respawn on restart, necessitating I exit to the main menu and restart every time I want to attempt another run.\nI know the game is only three dollars, but the technical shortcomings make it pretty much unplayable. I can stomach a bit of jank from smaller indie games like this, but the aforementioned issues are significant enough to make House of God dead-on-arrival. It feels like there's a good game in here somewhere, but I can't really recommend it now without further iteration from the developer, which seems unlikely.","html":"
