Dual Force, it's inevitable to draw comparisons with Marvel Snap. As long-standing leaders and competitors in the superhero IP arena, Marvel Snap's explosive success after its 2022 release was a significant catalyst for the accelerated launch of DC Dual Force. However, the game failed to recognize that Marvel Snap's success wasn't just due to the superhero IP but also its innovative gameplay and easy-to-learn, fast-paced combat which were key to its success. Ignoring these valuable lessons, DC Dual Force's rushed release, insufficient market research, and lackluster development, along with poor marketing and PR responses, led to scant initial player engagement, culminating in a hurried conclusion to its operations within less than six months.\nStrictly speaking, DC Dual Force and Marvel Snap do not compete directly in terms of gameplay. DC Dual Force's mechanics are more reminiscent of traditional CCGs like Magic: The Gathering, HearthStone, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends, with many similarities in interface and gameplay, whereas Marvel Snap simplified and improved upon the board game Smash Up, bearing more resemblance to Gwent. The musical experience in DC Dual Force is commendable, and the inclusion of dynamic DC comics in single-player mode is a creative touch. The full voice acting and unique DC comic art style are also quite appealing. Unfortunately, the game's shortcomings are difficult to overlook.\nDespite development starting in 2021, the game's interface, interaction experience, and feedback feel outdated, more akin to a game from a decade ago. When we talk about DC Dual Force, it's inevitable to draw comparisons with Marvel Snap. Ignoring these valuable lessons, DC Dual Force's rushed release, insufficient market research, and lackluster development, along with poor marketing and PR responses, led to scant initial player engagement, culminating in a hurried conclusion to its operations within less than six months.

Strictly speaking, DC Dual Force and Marvel Snap do not compete directly in terms of gameplay. Unfortunately, the game's shortcomings are difficult to overlook.

Despite development starting in 2021, the game's interface, interaction experience, and feedback feel outdated, more akin to a game from a decade ago. Along with the cheap startup interface and game UI, the sluggish and often inaccurate interaction experience, and numerous bugs significantly detract from the gaming experience, not to mention the potential for the game to freeze as on-screen units and player commands increase. The pace of matches is moderately paced, but the overall experience is lengthy and tedious. The potential of the story mode, which could have been a unique feature, was not effectively utilized. The decision not to release a mobile version is a critical misstep for a card game.

The game itself is in an awkward position, with its formulaic, uninnovative gameplay core failing to attract card game enthusiasts. Its lack of focus on the story mode also disappoints DC fans, and the poor gaming experience deters most interested players. Nonetheless, the failure of DC Dual Force is not without meaning, serving as a reminder, much like Valve's Artifact, that traditional CCG mechanics and reliance on major IPs are no longer enough to engage players. The rare offer of refunds to players was commendable, but not all games in this genre may do the same, thus cautioning card game players to carefully consider their support for smaller card games to avoid harming the most supportive and enthusiastic players.

Things I like:
\n- I enjoy the Comics and look forward to more episodes to play
\n- There are some pretty cool cards, effects, and leader abilities
\n- The artwork is awesome and a lot of it is pulled directly from the comic book art

Things I hate:
\n- Frustrating bugs
\n- Not optimized and slow
\n- Servers have issues and matches/games end up lagging or just breaking completely
\n- The game is slow to resolve effect chains
\n- There are no cinematic movies for comics
\n- The UI/UX is pretty dated... navigating the menus feels clunky
\n- Any game with its own launcher is annoying
\n- Some decks are just so broken to play against
\n- Voice acting isnt great

I love DC and the game CAN be fun when it works. Dual Force has a long way to go to have the same fluidity and polish as SNAP, but im rooting for them.

Making a leader costs 1000 atoms. Some legendary cards cost 1200 and upward. Their 5 card \"booster packs\" give you 5 cards - they are typically 4 commons and one rare (blue - the next rarity up). Doesn't take a genius to work out that with their daily quests of 750 gold and weekly quest of 3000 gold, and each pack costing 2000 gold, that this will take months, possibly years, to get the leaders and legendaries you have your eyes on. Because lets face it, you won't get them all that way before the game is cancelled.\nSecondly, their recent patch released possibly the worst free comic they've done to date (and I'm not talking the awful text bugs, unreadable sections, and awful writing - the \"gameplay\" for it is so poorly done, its like whoever was responsible did it drunk in about an hour and then didn't bother checking their work). This \"comic\" released with a bunch of pay to win cards and a leader based around the \"oceanic\" set and Black Manta.\nYeah, nice one. This means you have this whole front rank, back rank thing going on where the dudes in front protect the guys at the back. The whole \"game area\" is tiny and sits slap bang in the middle of the screen, and you can already see they had nothing but the mobile market in mind when they began developing this mess. Ugh.\nThe \"matchmaking\" is a joke. You will be constantly matched up with pay to win players and their decks stacked with broken cards, combo's and legendaries that you have no hope in hell of beating with the trash free garbage you have access to - because they want to nickel and dime you for every non-generous pack, with their non-generous odds, and every comic you don't have access to unless you get their battle pa... \"subscription\".\nI played a good twenty games today to see what kind of run I had in ranked, and it was disgustingly bad. When I wasn't up against the p2w leader Shazam, it was the p2w leader Manta, some broken combo involving the Manta set of cards, the broken anarchy card Deathstroke, or any combination of Aquaman - who was busted in beta for being too strong, and with the new aquatic themed cards, guess who's back in top form?! Yeah pick any of the above, and you'll get at least one of those options in your face EVERY MATCH.\nTo make matters worse, you get more stuff by \"winning\" in ranked. Guess who the winners are?! Yep, see above.\nWhat truly irritates me, is that despite the game being called DUAL force, its only ever 1 vs 1. F****ING REALLY?!\nYou have a game where you pit TWO LEADERS against TWO LEADERS and you DIDN'T THINK ABOUT MULTIPLAYER MATCHES?!?!?!\nWell, considering the way they organised all the DC characters, ramming everything \"bad guy\" into two categories, while spacing out all the \"heroes\" into three badly named categories, its obvious that the dev team either had practically no clue about the DC canon, or just simply didn't care. UPDATE: 22nd December 2023
\nWell I told them way back in the closed Beta: "If you don't change what you're doing, the game'll be dead in 6 months."
\nTheir response to my suggestions to improve it (mainly concerning monetisation) was the typical dismissive and arrogant response you get from game dev's that have no clue how to do it properly: "Trust us."
\nHere we are, not even 6 months after release and we have the final patch.
\nBravo.
\nNext time, listen to proper feedback and not streamers and content creators who don't want to criticise for fear of losing out in the future.

At its core, this is yet another Hearthstone clone that actually makes Hearthstone look generous, which should tell you volumes about this game and its implementation.
\nI won't even go into the bugs. Yes, there are loads of them, and most have been there since beta.

What's most annoying to me, is that this is yet another team of developers that have decided that the best way to pull their game out of the toilet with its dwindling player numbers because of the pay to win nonsense, is to double down on the pay to win nonsense.

Yep, nothing will pull those new players in quicker than getting schooled by wallet warriors abusing the power disparity YOU MADE WORSE.
\nWhat do I mean?
\nWell it's simple really: any game that follows this sort of "free to play" model inherently has a power disparity between those that break out the bank balance than to those that don't, because they get to the powerful stuff faster.
\nThis game goes further than that with the disparity - I warned them of it in beta, but they ignored me:
\nThe comic rewards which are available only to paying players, are all powerful cards.
\nWell let's call that like it is:
\nIt's not a subscription, its a freaking battle pass.
\nWhy is it one of those?
\nBecause the payers get bonus goodies with their log in bonuses, which - surprise surprise - includes copies of cards.

Now to address all the pay to winners that whine "but you can craft every leader and card!" to defend the game they've spent bank on, and can't admit to themselves that they have a problem:

First off, it costs the equivalent of 200 common cards to craft a leader: each common card you "atomise" (lets face it, its the dust system from Hearthstone only less generous) yields 5 atoms. Making a leader costs 1000 atoms. Some legendary cards cost 1200 and upward. Their 5 card "booster packs" give you 5 cards - they are typically 4 commons and one rare (blue - the next rarity up). Doesn't take a genius to work out that with their daily quests of 750 gold and weekly quest of 3000 gold, and each pack costing 2000 gold, that this will take months, possibly years, to get the leaders and legendaries you have your eyes on. Because lets face it, you won't get them all that way before the game is cancelled.

Secondly, their recent patch released possibly the worst free comic they've done to date (and I'm not talking the awful text bugs, unreadable sections, and awful writing - the "gameplay" for it is so poorly done, its like whoever was responsible did it drunk in about an hour and then didn't bother checking their work). This "comic" released with a bunch of pay to win cards and a leader based around the "oceanic" set and Black Manta.

Yeah, nice one. Make that power disparity worse.

This is without going into their minisets focused on Shazam and Green Arrow (the cards in which are craftable, but see above for the ridiculous dust/atom prices.
\nHeck, I wouldn't mind too much if everything WAS craftable - which includes the cosmetic versions of leaders and cardbacks, but no only those with a wallet can get those things.

Gotta turn them "payers into players" right?

Now onto another serious matter:

The game itself is a dramatically cut down version of Hearthstone: you have a two by three grid of "slots" two of which are your leaders, who have their own abilities, some of which are broken as all heck, while others are so badly done you can't get them to work most games (Black Adam never makes the leader cut: by the time you get his "ability" online, he's either too badly messed up anyway, or you've already won/lost). This means you have this whole front rank, back rank thing going on where the dudes in front protect the guys at the back. The whole "game area" is tiny and sits slap bang in the middle of the screen, and you can already see they had nothing but the mobile market in mind when they began developing this mess. Ugh.

The "matchmaking" is a joke. But then, the new "Black Manta" leader - a freaking pirate who's out to loot and get rich - apparently falls into the Anarchy category too. Do they not know what anarchy means?!
\nHere, let me spell it out for you:
\na state of disorder due to absence or non-recognition of authority or other controlling systems.
\nPirates like MONEY, because MONEY buys things because its part of a SYSTEM of order.
\nI could go on and on about how all this stuff - particularly the "bad guys" - are miscategorised, but I digress.

SUMMARY:
\nAn awfully made P2W game in the hearthstone vein, filled with exploitative monetisation techniques, and a dev team that does not listen to the criticism that counts - if at all.

PS: I neglected to mention that the game's "account linking" nonsense is busted - they aren't sending emails to the email I entered. Good thing I have it installed outside of steam, right?

You get rolled by the high powerlevel of cards that if you do not curve out you simply lose against agressive decks 100% of the time. The core problem here is is the energy system combined with a small starting hand. being limited to only play 2 cards per turn is quite unique among other cardgames, but probably for a good reason. Even if there is no bug happening in a moment the client is a chore to work with. Attack animations are not smooth, the are always delayed and get stuck between other actions. Chaining actions while you are low on the rope is pretty much impossible because of this, since you can never guarantee the client actually takes your inputs until you see a delayed animation for it. Overall the gameplay really suffers from it and made me take a break from regular play. You could even say that it would be better to play the game on TTS even if that might be a stretch and not 100% true, but that this even comes to my mind as a consideration should be a bad signal. I am f2p myself and i do not have the feeling that i cannot keep up with the card releases to much. Sure i do not own every card right now, but i do or at least could craft the ones i want, and still play dailies to gain more ressources (theoretically, if i would actually play enough to make my dailies and get through painful gameplay for that, but that is not the problem of the economy)\nClosing words would be that I could accept all the hickups and bugs during the beta that was not on steam, because it was a quite limited playerpool, but with the launch on steam i cannot ignore all of that anymore and i just have to say that it makes the game overall just not fun to play at all (except the Comics). Right now i cannot give a positive review, but i am open to changing that once we get a game that is fun.","html":"

gameplay could be fun but,

1. the game balance is unfortunately quite bad
\n2. turns take ages and the downtime between turns is very high
\n3. bugs over bugs
\n4. the rng that desides games is really not feeling good.
\n5. the client is aweful

the game is fun when,

6. i do not have to play against humans
